9 Summer Reading Recs for Health & Inspiration

It’s easy to get lost in the heat of the summer and lose your sense of routine, it happens every year. But come Labor Day, we are always craving that structure in our daily lives. We have found that reminding ourselves of the importance of wellness is the best way to get excited to jump back into our healthy habits. Our drive to maintain routine is backed by our passion for living healthy, and our favorite way to keep that passion burning is through education. Summer is the perfect time to sit down with a book, so we wanted to share some of our favorites with our “get excited to get back into that routine” summer reading list!

Intuitive Fasting by Dr Will Cole – We enjoy books that lay out a plan. They provide a sense of direction that will allow you to see if this eating pattern is right for you because intermittent fasting is not for everyone. There is some debate that women should wait until menopause to try it, but it is an interesting lifestyle approach, and for many people it gives them the results they desire!

Super Human by Dave Asprey – We love Dave’s books, and feel especially inspired by his podcasts, which touch upon cutting edge ideas in health and longevity. This book is a quick read that leaves you thinking about many different ideas on health and wellness. And if you often find yourself on walks or in the car with little time or desire to sit down with a book, his podcast is a perfect option.

How Not To Die by Michael Greger – Incorporating more plant based food into our diets helps us live overall healthier and happier lives. In his book, Michael provides easy to follow tips on eating more plants and all of the benefits that come with adding an abundance of them to your diet! We keep this one on our nightstand so that we are reminded to follow a few tips every day.

The Inside Tract: The Good Gut Guide to Great Digestive Health by Gerard E. Mullin and Kathie Madonna Swift – This book has held its spot on our list for years! Good digestive health is the result of a healthy mind, body and spirit. When your gut is off, your life is off, and the information in this book can provide a pathway to healing for many. In our early years of Krush, this book not only inspired us but so many of our guests as well!

The End Of Alzheimer’s : The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline by Dr. Dale E Bredesen – In his book Dr. Bredesen discusses metabolic factors that can trigger brain decline, and offers solutions through lifestyle changes that can prevent it. He explains how B12, gluten avoidance, and oral hygiene are extremely manageable yet impactful. We plan to lead Organic Krush into the future of humanity’s health, and that will require our brains to work well into our 100s! This book is for anyone who wants to keep their mind young.

Food: What the Heck Should I Eat by Dr. Mark Hyman – Dr. Hyman always amazes us with his scientific insights regarding lifestyle and food. We especially love that his book provides a roadmap to health through recipes, advice and coaching for a variety of lifestyles!

Food 52 Mighty Salads: 60 New Ways to Turn Salad Into a Dinner – Summer is the perfect time to make salads your central meal! There are so many inventive ways to satisfy yourself, your family and your guests with plant filled salads. If you are having trouble getting inspired, have some fun with your next order from Krush! Charred lemon and fennel is a new addition we will be pursuing **heart eyes emoji**

Bowls: Vibrant Recipes with Endless Possibilities – It’s official. Bowls are the crowd pleasing wave of the future. No matter the eating style, a warm bowl filled with a variety of flavors and food groups offers endless possibilities. We’re looking at you, Green Veggie Fried Rice Bowl.

The Easy Gluten-Free Cookbook by Lindsay Garza – FINALLY a GF cookbook offering fuss-free recipes! As mothers, we are devoted to serving food that makes ourselves and our kids feel great, and for us gluten free is often the answer. Simple tips and delicious, easy recipes?
