A Package, A Present, A Piece of…
Here at Krush, on our passionate journey to live our days feeling healthy and well, we talk a lot about sugar. It has been interesting for us over the years to hear so much confusion around fruit. Also known as nature’s most incredible present, filled to the brim with antioxidants, energy, fiber and flavor. Fruit is a gift that keeps on giving. People seem to fear the sugars in fruit as something that could cause weight gain. We’re here to tell you that nature’s gift is so perfectly packaged that you don’t need to worry about that type of sugar! In fact, most days, we find ourselves consuming at least 6 servings of fruit, from our smoothies, to afternoon acai snacks, to fresh berries for dessert!
Here is what we love, treasure, and embrace about fruit:
1. Package Deal: Fruit contains fructose, and fructose comes pre-packaged with phytonutrients, fiber, and antioxidants! Name one other food group (besides vegetables) that gets to boast ALL that goodness!
2. Fiber: The fiber in fruit has a gelling effect in your stomach and small intestine that slows the release of sugars. Therefore is doesn’t negatively affect your blood sugar levels the way a soda or sugary iced tea would tell your pancreas to release insulin that then turns that sugar to fat.
3. Natural Sugars: The natural sugars in fruit = energy for our brain and our cells. We’re pretty active people, and while we LOVE vegetables and clean proteins, we need to get our energy from somewhere besides coffee! Fruit does the trick!
4. Vibrant Colors: The colors of fruit are nutrition at its finest. Nature’s colors in our foods are nutrients in the form that our bodies need. A vibrant orange is abundant in vitamin C and DNA repair. Considering humans take about 800 hits an hour to their DNA, the need for repair is constant, and fruits like oranges majorly assist. For some real spicy reading, check out this information about watermelons. You might never question fruit again!
5. Nature’s Candy: Fruit can take the place of more burdensome foods. For example, frozen ripe bananas with a dash of vanilla and a teaspoon of cacao can become the creamiest ice cream, thereby skipping the hard to digest lactose sugars that cause bloating and discomfort. We find our best health choices often revolve around substitutes. Remember, no suffering around food, just joy!
So go ahead, dive into a crunchy apple, slurp a Berry Bliss smoothie, enjoy a chocolate covered strawberry…your heart, your head, your whole self will thank you for this perfect gift from nature!
