Fresh Air

With social restrictions starting to lift, there’s a sort of hope in the air that has been absent for a little over a year now.  The spring air seems fresher and the prospect of sunshine outings is almost blindingly exciting.  Restaurants with outside seating, nature trails, live music unsuccessfully trying to fill open air venues, the possibilities seem endless, especially when compared to the truly limited options we’ve all recently experienced.  Can you feel it?

Long Island is a haven of outdoor treasures.  The number of trails alone could keep a person active for an entire summer.  From Montauk Point State Park to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, you can hike for the views, the steps or the animals, up to you but it’s all there.  There are tons of apps available right on your phone for beginner to advanced hikers.  A personal fav is the Hiking Project App.  This is a completely free app that allows users to share their data on hikes across the globe.  Just download the information for NY, which you can delete any time and takes no time to upload, and click into different hikes for overviews, elevations, driving directions and more.  My family took a drive up to the Montauk lighthouse just the other day, the views were spectacular, truly an ‘end of the earth’ feel.  I can’t wait to dig into some more of these!

Music?  Fuhgeddaboudit.  Jones beach is back baby!  I don’t just mean for killer beach waves and sandy hot dogs either.  I mean the most incredible music venue is back, it looks like, starting at the middle of July.  Need a live music fix quicker than that?  It just so happens that there are dozens of bars, divey and not, that offer great outdoor music when the weather’s nice.  A quick internet search or check into a social media group, can provide endless days and nights of glorious live music.  It’s time to get your groove back.

Food!  It would be neglectful of me to not mention that fun dining experiences are no longer a thing of the past.  As we previously discussed, La Fin is now fully operational and ready to be enjoyed.  The Montauk-based, Organic Krush sister promises to be a hopping joint with exquisite views, killer food and a warm space to build memories.  Find that local place, meet up with friends, share, laugh and eat your way through this summer.  We all deserve some companionship and light-hearted, full-bellied joy.

It has been tough this past year on so many people for so many different reasons, many centered around a shared threat, but we did it!  Your beautiful body sheltered you through this storm to the sunny side.  Indulge it this summer with the great outdoors, vibrant music and only the best food and drink.  Brighter days were much needed and so they have arrived, get out there and get after them!
